The Mustang is a legend car. This year, or more precisely on April 17, was the 60th anniversary of its establishment. On this occasion, we invite you to learn more about interesting facts and unusual events related to this iconic brand.
The Ford Mustang was officially presented on April 17, 1964 at the New York Auto Show. The Ford Mustang not only gained recognition among motoring enthusiasts, but also became an icon of popular culture. He has appeared in numerous films, television series and computer games.
The Mustang looked great in chase and escape scenes. The most famous films in which he appeared are "Diamonds Are Forever" with James Bond, "Bullit" and "60 Seconds".
He also appeared in the video for the song "Don't Cry" by Guns N'Roses.
The car needed a name and a distinctive symbol. Initially, the car was to be called Allegro, then the following proposals appeared: Cougar, Stiletto and Torino.
The name Mustang is said to reflect the spirit of America with its passion for freedom, speed and strength. Some sources claim that it comes from the P-51 Mustang fighter from World War II.
Ford encountered a problem when exporting the Mustang to Germany. In the years 1951-1964, there was already a German truck called Mustang.
As a result, the Ford Mustang name was used all over the world, except for Germany, where the car was sold under the name T-5 until December 1978. The T5 name has no specific meaning, but it was the original design name for the Mustang in the early 1960s.
Not everyone knows that the Mustang was also created in a Kombi version. The first designs of such a Mustang appeared in the 1960s. Ford commissioned an Italian company specializing in body modifications to make this model.
In 2007, Ford introduced a special edition of the Mustang called "Warriors In Pink". This model had pink elements (also pink hood stripes on some models), and for this special version the famous Mustang badge also changed to pink. This model was introduced to support a foundation that works to fight breast cancer.
In 1965, as part of a promotional campaign, it was decided to display one of the Mustang models on the observation deck on the 86th floor of the Empire State Building. However, the vehicle had no chance of fitting in the elevator. It was cut into six pieces and then reassembled on top. Interestingly, in 2014, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the model, this unusual action was repeated, this time with the new generation Ford Mustang.
